How long you're looking to get a way plays a significant role in deciding where to head to as well.
What my wife and I recommend is starting a vacation fund that you allocate a portion of your wages to on a monthly basis.
There are two main factors to consider when deciding when to travel; the first is the season your destination will be experiencing at the time of your vacation and the second is cost. For example, the cost of flights can be significantly higher depending on the time of year you book.
We believe the earlier the better. This will give you the time necessary to save up, research, and purchase needed materials as well as plan for any potential medical requirements. A good rule of thumb is about 6 months before you plan to leave.
